Tips 29.05-02.06

Annette Sonnewend at Scotty Enterprises 31.05-22.06

May, the most festive month of the year is coming to an end, which in Berlin translates into even more parties. If you look at our recommended events, you will certainly find one that matches your tastes. We're almost sure that even the seemingly regular openings hide some surprises this week.

WEDNESDAY 29.05

18.00 Teenitus Festival @ Festsaal Kreuzberg, Monarch, Westgermany

WHY: A 3-day festival with diverse program and neverending confusion. Due to the messy concept it's a bit of a challenge to give a simple reason for this tip, but don't let that discourage you, as it didn't stop us from trying to solve the schedule riddle. We figured out that this event offers you an exhibition opening with a performance (18h Wednesday @ Westgermany), multimedia lecture with Wenzel Storch (Thursday @ Monarch), concerts @ Festsaal Kreuzberg – Mouse On Mars, Jan Jelinek, Felix Kubin, Dirty Beaches and many more, plus other interesting side events. Once you figure out what is when and where, 'why?' and 'how?' won't be relevant anymore.

19.30 Trempolino Workshop Ending @ Ausland

WHY: If the end of the month is demonstrating its presence by a terrible void in your wallet, here's a great event that welcomes you even if broke as a joke. What you're about to see in Ausland is the result of a 10-day workshop with French musicians led by Bernd Friedman, Frank Bretschneider, Nick Meehan and Robert Lippok. The workshop participants will share their experience and perform under the direction of Robert Lippok. Support it with your attendance and enjoy the evening of priceless sounds.

Ausland / Lychener Strasse 60, 10437 Berlin, U2 Schonhauser Allee/S Prenzlauer Allee / free entry / more info

FRIDAY 31.05

19.00 Annette Sonnewend – Visitez La Collection @ Scotty Enterprises

WHY: Annette Sonnewend is showing a selection of re-constructions in a wide range of different media – from drawing, photography, objects and sound installations to video.  She constructs a sequence of experiments in which authentic events are combined with the fictive. It is said to be a reunion with masterpieces from European art, film and literary history, that serves as an archive from which subjective values are selected and re-interpreted. Freshen up your Roland Barthes quotes and see if the artist outsmarts you with this show.

Scotty Enterprises / Oranienstrasse 46, Berlin 10969, U8 Moritzplatz /show open through 22.06 / free entry / more info

20.00 Synaesthesia /4: Translating, Correcting, Archiving @ Art Laboratory Berlin

WHY: Synaesthesia / 4 is the last in the Art Laboratory Berlin's four-part series on synaesthesia. This episode presents three positions by artists Eva-Maria Bolz, Ditte Lyngkær Pedersen and Andy Holtin, who are grapheme synaesthetes. All three artists experience different forms of synaesthetic perception and use their own mode of expression. If curiosity leads you toward multisensory experiences and altered perception, we advice you to try this exhibition.

Art Laboratory Berlin / Prinzenallee 34, Berlin 13359, U8 Pankstrasse / show open through 21.07 / free entry / more info

19.00 A Night at the Park @ Das Moosdorf

WHY: A Night at the Park features nine artists working in diverse media and thematic trajectories. The show is accompanied by The Interview Loop - an informative text that circumvents the conventional dry curatorial writing. It will exist metaphorically as a merry-go-round of meaning; in a circular fashion each artist asks three questions to the next artist (Q&A available on Facebook). The opening will be followed by an afterparty, so no need to worry about going to this opening to a slightly remote direction – you might as well spend the night at the park.

Das Moosdorf / Moosdorfstrasse 7-9, 12435 Berlin, S Treptower Park / show open through 14.06 / free entry / more info

23.00 Month of Performance Art – The Grand Finale @ Shift

WHY: Time to say goodbye! Month of Performance Art is at its very end and celebrating with One Big Naughty Party. It is the grand finale of the third edition, and the organisers promise to leave us begging for more. Advice is to come early (20h)  for the barbecue and not to miss the final performance by  Ran Chai Bar-zvi at 23h, which will be followed by a line up of live music and Djs.

Shift / Köpenicker Strasse 70, 10179 Berlin, U8 Heinrich-Heine-Strasse / 5-10 € / more info

SUNDAY 02.06

19.00 Monica Bonvicini – Announcements @ Kurt-Kurt

WHY: Monica Bonvicini is known for her large-scale installations in which she deals with the structures of power and seduction. The focus is on the areas of architecture and public space, professional world, sexuality, politics and representation, whose close connections she reveals. For the exhibition at Kurt Kurt she presents a selection of posters to announce the artists' talk with her. These posters represent the inviting institutions (art schools, academies, art galleries, museums, etc.) and through their visual communication she questions their work. A fresh new cynical perspective on the well known topic.

Kurt-Kurt / Lübecker Strasse 13, 10559 Berlin, U9 Turmstrasse / show open through 15.06 / free entry / more info
