19.00 PRESENT TENSE SERIES III: Nathalie Mba Bikoro @ SAVVY Contemporary

WHY: Within the frame of Present Tense Series, Nathalie Mba Bikoro will present the second part of the performance installation “Pietà; The Hammer, Mother & Child”. It is the result of Bikoro’s investigation of maternity as a catalyst of intensity, which summarizes the main traits of life, focusing on its paradoxical aspects. Bikoro’s narrative depicts the act of giving birth as a personal, arduous journey of transformation, which comes to be representative of human strength.

18.00 Martin Creed @ Johnen Galerie

WHY: Johnen Galerie opens the Rotwang Haus in the courtyard of the gallery building with the exhibition by Martin Creed. His new works take the height of the new space as a theme. Along with the constructions made of steel and the pyramids made of paper towels, the movie "Erection" will be screened, and some of his new paintings will be on display.

18.30 Openhaus – open studios & presentations @ ZK/U - Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik

WHY: Artists and researchers in residence will open the doors of their studios and present the projects they have developed during their time at ZK/U. The public is invited to come and take a look into the artists' studios, get familiar with the different projects that are presented, as well as meet the residents and discuss their works with them.

20.30 Reflektor 3 @ West Germany

WHY: Third edition of the performance art and music event Reflektor explores the interactive dynamic between sound and performance. Neele Hücklier, Alessandra Eramo, Brigid Pasco and Stella Veloce will each offer their own approach on stage, using music, noise, improvisation, and body movement.

FRIDAY 28.03

19.00 Judith Hopf - Untitled (2) @ PRAXES

WHY: Following the contemplation of the artist’s concrete sheep sculptures, Untitled (2) moves fast-forward presenting a 10-day screening of Hopf’s film works from the past two decades. The opening night features a talk by architect, author, and collaborator Jesko Fezer, followed by a DJ set by artist Julian Göthe.

19.00 Dirk Lange / Carolein Smit  @ Galerie Michael Haas

WHY: Dirk Lange creates aesthetically complex and layered large format drawings, which oscillate between reality and fiction. Lange is inspired by historical photographs of costumed youth and contemporary photographs that portray members of Far Eastern subcultures.

Carolein Smit is one of the most exciting contemporary artists working with ceramics. Her sculptures are solely figurative, extremely detailed and covered with coloured glossy glazes. Galerie Michael Haas presents a comprehensive selection of her sculptures from recent years.

SATURDAY 29.03

16.00 Benefit auction @ Autocenter

WHY: For over 13 years, Berlin-based artists Maik Schierloh and Joep van Liefland have run Autocenter, a place for art that transcends the hierarchies of the art market. This Saturday they will host the second art auction, for which artists have donated works in support of this non-commercial exhibition space. Proceeds from the auction will go towards the upkeep of the Autocenter artistic program and its exhibition space.
