20.00 1:1 / Re-calculating Virtual Ratios. Session 1: Opacity @ Import Projects

WHY: Cy­ber-body free­dom that characterised early in­ter­net medi­ums, in which anonymity and in­vented iden­ti­ties pre­vailed, has been sti­fled as the in­ter­net has be­come a vi­sual arena in which we are sub­ject to con­stant imag­ing, sur­veil­lance and the work­ings of the in­for­ma­tion economy. On­line iden­tity is tied into var­i­ous plat­forms and con­stantly processed by in­vis­i­ble al­go­rithms. In re­sponse, there is an emerg­ing ten­dency in on­line com­mu­nities to­wards shroud­ing one­self in non-(rational) in­for­ma­tion. This symposium explores the ways and possibilities of obscuring oneself in today's wide­spread com­pul­sion to re­veal every­thing.

18.00 Marco Montiel-Soto - Distanz ohne Guayabo @ Kinderhook & Caracas

WHY: It was easy to pick this opening out of the week's offer after we remembered that the Venezuelan artist Marco Montiel-Soto left a memorable impression on us at Relevante Musik festival (see here). His solo exhibition at Kinderhook & Caracas is a chance to meet the artist, see more of his works and enjoy some rum coctails kindly provided by Pampero.

19.00 Dissident Desire #1: Exercises of Critical Bodybuilding @ District

WHY: "Exercises of Critical Body Building" is an exhibition and performance project, which opens up a rehearsing space for body-based knowledge production and non-conformist modes of operating within the ongoing research framework of "dissident desire". This chapter of dissident desire unites artistic ideas which question the body as a molecular archive of technological, ideological and economical fluxes and which record and enact forms of political subjectivity in the inbetween-room of precarity and desire.

20.00 STUDY GROUPS C. NEWMAN: Sad Secrets @ 7hours Haus 19

WHY: 7hours Study Groups have been set up 2010. The first work „voice, books and Fire 3“  by Jakob Ulmann was performed by 8 untrained voices after 2 years of discussion and rehearsing, moderatet by Bill Dietz. This time Agnieszka Dziubak an Christiane Grüß are going to perform selected songs from Sad Secrets by C. Newman who says: "These pieces were written for performing human beings, rather than instrument-specific musicians."

17.00 Nicola Samorì - Guarigione dell'ossesso @ Galerie Christian Ehrentraut

WHY: Samorì’s works often refer to Italian 17th century painting by the selection of motives as well as by his painting technique. Still lifes, portraits, devotional paintings and landscapes develop through enormous technical skills over a long span of time and through numerous layers of paint on copper, wood or canvas. The outcome is dark and slightly disturbing but nevertheless beautiful.

19.00 Mona Hakimi-Schüler - Not All Heroes Are Registered @ Uqbar

WHY: Specializing in painting, drawing and installation, the work by Mona Hakimi Schüler is heavily informed by the artist's own experiences and memories, engaging in an ongoing process of reconciling her memories and dreams of past with the reality of her country's recent history and her own position in relation to it. Utilising traditional symbolism and imagery in a variety of settings and situations, Hakimi presents a dream-word in which perception, thought and nostalgia are repeatedly celebrated and questioned.

20.00 The Pizza Suicide Club Presents: PHIL&MONICA and friends @ Sameheads

WHY: Jackie, Breast, Popsimonova, Peacock, Oddy & Mexican Lyons - surprisingly those are not cartoon characters but musicians performing on Saturday night at Sameheads (one could easily mix the two when the event is called Pizza Suicide Club). We can't deny the fun we had at PSC events, so we gladly continue spreading the love. Go check what you've been missing; you might be pleasantly surprised with some catchy dancey sounds.
