Tips 23.04 - 26.04

Tips 23.04 - 26.04

After a long and lazy holiday weekend, we are starting to miss the gallery hopping routine. For those who feel the same: use this week's events as a mild-tempo preparation for the marathon called Gallery Weekend (starting 02.05 - more info here).

WEDNESDAY 23.04

20.30 MULTI7 V.E @ Altes Finanzamt

WHY: Multiversal is the event series on irregular basis that promotes free formed music (but not only music). It is the self-proclaimed end of the music musiness bullshit, "because it is not universal but it is multiversal". From its seventh edition, this time at Altes Finanzamt, expect radio-unfriendly, demanding but rewarding, hard-listening improvised (non-)music. Line-up: Martin Kuentz, Muozik, Les Trotteuses, 2.1.

Altes Finanzamt / Schönstedtstrasse 7, 12043 Berlin, U Rathaus Neukölln / more info

THURSDAY 24.04

17.00 Tim Eitel - Nebel und Sonne @ Galerie EIGEN + ART

WHY: In his works, Tim Eitel subtracts or abstracts each subject from any narrative space and tends to install it in silence and time to subject it to observation and variation. The image is slowly defined as if our eyes had to become accustomed to the dark, in order to glimpse the nuances, the depth, and then see the contours come to the surface. There will invariably be a Buddha's head, a tree's shadow, a ghost, a mass of hair or a body in a paradoxical state, beings ready to shift into another reality or into another order of painting.

Galerie EIGEN + ART, Auguststrasse 26, 10117 Berlin, U Rosenthaler Platz / open through 07.06 / free entry / more info

18.00 Noé Sendas - To Make Ends Meet @ Invaliden1

WHY: At his premiere at Invaliden1 new gallery space in Schönleinstraße 25, Noé Sendas presents a selection of his most recent photo collage series, namely “Peeps” and “Crystal Girls”. In order to create a unified display, the artist arranged a constellation of his works in relation to an extensive, ultimately alluded, mantelshelf. Aside from the main installation, the new art book “Geometries”, edited by Sandra Feio, is on view.

Invaliden1 / Schönleinstrasse25, 10967 Berlin, U Schönleinstrasse / open through 07.06 / free entry / more info

FRIDAY 25.04

19.00 Steffen Bunte - Kill Switch @ Open Forum

WHY: Open Forum presents Steffen Bunte's first solo exhibition in Berlin. In this multidisciplinary work group titled Kill Switch, Steffen presents our desire to create technology which surpasses our own capabilities. Artificial intelligence is one of such exciting ideas, which can also radically change civilization.

Open Forum / Brunnenstrasse 115, 13355 Berlin, U Voltastrasse / open through 01.06 / free entry / more info

20.00 Lucy Dyson - Neue Welten @ Das Gift

WHY: Recent paper collage works, made in Berlin over the last 12 months, including some original collages commissioned as album artwork covers. Lucy Dyson is an Australian artist and director who has been based in Berlin since 2011. She works across collage, animation and film and has directed music videos for artists such as Gemma Ray, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Gotye and Ray LaMontagne.

SATURDAY

18.00 Evan Gruzis - Atavistic Zen @ DUVE Berlin

WHY: In "Atavistic Zen", Evan Gruzis considers the frame as subject within the transformation of his own process. Inspired by Dōgen Zenji, the Japanese Zen Buddhist teacher, Gruzis creates a unique body of work that explores the visualization of tension found in chaos and the more calculable wave form. "Atavistic Zen" showcases Gruzis's recent experimentation with materials.

DUVE Berlin / Gitschiner Str. 94/94a (Entrance D, 1.5 floor), U Prinzenstrasse, 10969 Berlin / open through 07.06 / free entry / more info

18.00 Viktoria Binschtok - eclipse99 @ KLEMM'S

WHY: eclipse99 is made up of clusters of photographic images built on visual and formal associations. In an ultimate response to recursive image production and use, Binschtok has turned the internet search engine in on her own artwork, opening up a conversation between herself and the computer – artist to machine.

KLEMM'S / Prinzessinnenstr. 29, 10969 Berlin, U Moritzplatz / free entry / more info

18.30 Rieko Hotta - Mash @ Paolo Erbetta Gallery

WHY:  The research of the artist aims to simultaneously synthesize the macrocosmic and microcosmic vision of perception, using an apparent random distribution of solids and voids. The viewer is inevitably led to "scan" the surface of the canvas looking for a reassuring visual anchor, such as clouds, geographic perimeters and paths. These are monochromatic works obtained by applying the oil paint with a repeated sign. They bring the viewer in a maelstrom of new connections that generate a new perception of the meaning of things.

Paolo Erbetta Gallery / Potsdamer Strasse 107, 10785 Berlin, U Kurfürstenstrasse / open through 28.06 / free entry / more info
