Tips 19.07 - 21.07

Martin Gross (19.07 @ Feldbuschwiesner)

With so many summer parties going on we couldn't resist to bring you our own choice for this week. Enjoy our tips modestly or the hedonist way; almost all of them offer the opportunity for both.

FRIDAY 19.07

09.00 Freitagsfrühstück July Edition @ SUPERMARKT

WHY: This edition of Freitagsfrühstück (a monthly social gathering with a breakfast buffet) is special for marking a 4-week period in which SUPERMARKT will be completely taken over by the summer school of the transart institute, the International MFA + Studio PhD for artists and curators, providing us with a program of various events. Freitagsfrühstück is therefore a great opportunity to meet the directors, curators and artists from the transart group, learn more about the aims of the summerschool and see what they have in store for you.
Those who would like to join the breakfast should send an email to rsvp[a]supermarkt-berlin.net

Supermarkt / Brunnenstrasse 64, 13355 Berlin, U8 Bernauer Strasse- U8 Voltastrasse / free entry - buffet €5 / more info

17.00 This Red Door & REH Kunst celebrating summer @ REH Kunst

WHY: REH Kunst welcomes the project "This Red Door" with drinks and food, and invites everyone to join the celebration. Throughout the two summer months, through daily events, "This Red Door" becomes a discursive space where they integrate an address to the plastic arts through a salon styled rotation of objects, tandem lectures, informal talks, literary readings, film/video screenings, short plays, music, dinner parties, among other kinds of impromptu gatherings and aleatory occurrences. Use the opportunity to meet these interesting people and learn more about their project.

REH Kunst / Kopenhagener Strasse 17, 10437 Berlin, S/U Schönhauser Allee / more info

18.00 Martin Gross - Rutur @ Feldbuschwiesner

WHY: Feldbuschwiesner presents works of the young artist Martin Gross in his first comprehensive solo show. Works on paper, particularly drawings from the last two years, are based on the graphic de- and reconstruction of different structures in relation to space. The show is inspired by Italo Calvino's book The invisible cities. Just like the novel, his drawings depict places, spaces and objects which don't exist.

Feldbuschwiesner / Linienstrasse 155, 10115 Berlin, S Oranienburger Strasse - U Oranenburger Tor - U Rosenthaler Platz / show open through 24.08 / free entry / more info

19.00 Reading & Artist Talk @ Galerie Axel Obiger

WHY: During the exhibition of walldrawings by Jörn Gerstenberg and Gabriele Worgitzki (more info), the gallery will host an artist talk on their cooperative work. On the same evening Jörn Gerstenberg will read from his book "Ich und der schlimme Timo", a historic novel about a gang of children in the late seventies / early eighties roughing up a neighborhood in an east Berlin suburb.

Galerie Axel Obiger / Brunnenstraße 29, 10119 Berlin, U8 Rosenthaler Platz / free entry / more info

20.00 When You Live In Berlin - 6 Month Anniversary Party @ The Club

WHY: This Friday "When You Live In Berlin" is taking it IRL and having a six month anniversary party, and we know you want to know who's behind this popular Berlin blog. Description of this event is probably best served copy-pasted, so here it is: "Berlin's stereotypes are gonna be hit hard, so ready your "artistic statements", freshen up your tats and facial piercings and stick a Club Mate in your bag for later. And don't forget to bring a good dose of IRONY ;)". We feel obliged to point out: free vodka shots for the early birds.

The Club / Biebricher Straße 14, 12053 Berlin, U8 Boddinstrasse / free entry / more info

SATURDAY 20.07

13.00 Flohmarkt @ Go with the Floh

WHY: A small shop in Neukölln offers the chance to sell your stuff for free and in fun atmosphere. Pretty much nothing to lose here, so why not give it a chance, and while at it, enjoy some cakes, Cremant & chansons.

Go with the Floh / Innstraße 26, 12043 Berlin, U7 Rathaus Neukölln / more info

19.00 Jeremy Shaw Finissage / Summer Party @ Schinkel Pavillon

WHY: Schinkel Pavillon goes with the flow of summer parties this Saturday for the closing of their current exhibition Variation FQ by Jeremy Shaw. Expect a DJ Program (Lovers Never Die, Konrad Black, Natalia Escobar) as well as 2 bars, and don't forget to pay some attention to art while committedly sipping on your favorite drink.

Schinkel Pavillon / Oberwallstraße 1, 10117 Berlin, U2 Hausvogteilplatz / free entry / more info

19.30 Toby Goodshank - M @ Bootsbau

WHY: This opening might actually attract more concert than opening goers, since the artist Toby Goodshank is better known as a musician, primarily an ex Moldy Peaches member. His first solo show in Berlin, named "M" after a Fritz Lang movie, relies on science fiction, horror and humor to tell a story of alienation and exploration in Germany's capital. We recommend to go see it at the opening when there should also be musical performances by Susie Asado and Toby.

Bootsbau / Richardstrasse 43, 12055 Berlin, U7 Karl-Marx-Straße / free entry / more info

21.00 900 seconds @ Our/Berlin Vodka

WHY: The little new vodka destillery located between Kreuzberg's Club Der Visionäre and Badeschiff will be hosting 9oo Seconds July edition. The deal is to pick the records and be a DJ for no more / less than 900seconds, or in other words to have your 15 minutes of fame Mr Warhol was talking about some time ago. Advice is to come early to pick your slot on the timetable.

Our/Berlin Vodka / Am Flutgraben 2, 12435 Berlin, U1 Schlesisches Tor / free entry / more info

SUNDAY 21.07

20.00 Transart Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition 2013 @ Supermarkt

WHY: This exhibition is made of projects that couldn't be more different, yet the paticipating artists do have something in common: two years long unique academic program with a highly individualized format. They all had the opportunity to realize individual art and research projects with the support of faculty and self-chosen artist advisors, wherever they work and live, from Cairo to Jamaica to Norway to Australia to Qatar.

Supermarkt / Brunnenstrasse 64, 13355 Berlin, U8 Bernauer Strasse - U8 Voltastrasse / show open through 26.07 / free entry / more info
