Tips 11.06 - 15.06

Plan your week well! It seems like everything is going on at once, including the much anticipated Berlin Art Prize. Besides the openings, closings, and corresponding parties, this week we have some great concert tips for you.

WEDNESDAY 11.06

19.00 Heroines of Sound festival @ Berghain Kantine

WHY: Strictly dedicated to talented women, Heroines of Sound Festival presents female artists from the fields of experimental pop, performance, techno, and new music. Besides the performances, in the frame of the festival a public panel discussion with artists, scientists, and composers will take place; it will be a great opportunity to speak up on the gender-specific implications and perspectives on electronic music.

17.00 Marc Desgrandchamps - Solitudes @ Galerie EIGEN + ART Berlin

WHY: Galerie EIGEN + ART hosts the first solo exhibition by Marc Desgrandchamps, who is among the most important representatives of contemporary French painting. The motifs in Desgrandchamps' pictures are often classic swimming and beach scenes, which seem like concrete snapshots taken on vacation, or still shots from a film. There is nothing we would rather look at on hot days like these.

19.00 ArtAndArchitecture #7 @ District Kunst und Kulturförderung

WHY: And now something (not only) for the architecture geeks! Within the frame of ArtAndArchitecture, District co-produces and presents site-specific art projects which yield experimental perspectives at the intermediate zones between architecture, urban and social space, technology and art. Luis Berríos-Negrón develops his installation NONSPHERE XIV from his ongoing investigation into the contemporary tension between nature and technology.

19.00 Framework 1: extrasensory bonds @ insitu

WHY: For this exhibition insitu invited six international artists to present their investigations into extraordinary forms of communication. By adapting methods such as hypnosis, telepathy, dream analysis or card-reading, the artists open doors to intangible forces, some with a quite humorous approach. The exhibition has been designed as a laboratory space for visitors to experience unusual connections themselves. Everyone is welcome to try out self-hypnosis, artistic healing methods, or register for a fortune telling session to discover their own extrasensory bonds.

FRIDAY 13.06

17.00 Wonderful things to believe in @ Galerie Christian Ehrentraut

WHY: The third edition of a series of group shows at Galerie Ehrentraut serves as an experimental dialogue between artists from the gallery and invited guests. As the title suggests, the exhibition presents a romantic collection of imaginary worlds and phantasmagorical cosmologies, a secret garden of "Wonderful things to believe in". It features a wide variety of aesthetics, including a pink velvet circular lobby bench with a palm, which already sounds like proper fun.

SATURDAY 14.06

18.00 Berlin Art Prize @ Kühlhaus Berlin

WHY: Berlin Art Prize is back with an exciting program for the opening. The best way to attend this event is to come early and leave late. At 18h the doors are open for some cold stiff drinks, catering by Max Frey, and the first view of the exhibition featuring works by all nominees for the prize. At 20.30 the award ceremony starts, followed by an afterparty that goes until 06h.

SUNDAY 15.06
21.00 Finissage: Ines Kotarac - K wie Körper @ Suzie Fu

WHY: Ines Kotarac won a lot of attention with her wonderful otherworldly series of photographs titled "K wie Körper". While the portraits in the exhibition are dreamy and enigmatic, the closing of the show will have little to do with that kind of atmosphere. Save your Sunday evening for a couple of drinks and surprises (the rumors say there is going to be a concert!).

Suzie Fu / Flughafenstr. 25, 12053 Berlin, U Rathaus Neukölln - U Boddinstr. / free entry / more info
