Tips 04.12 - 08.12

Ute Klein (Friday 06.12 @ Centrum)

Berlin is getting more gloomy and glittery with each day, which prepares us for that undecided feeling of joy coupled with disgust that only occurs around Christmas. Make the best of it and focus your happy feelings on good things in life, such as... (see below)

WEDNESDAY 04.12

21.00 Pop-Momente @ Das Gift

WHY: Contributors of the multi-author blog Pop Momente (popmomente.tumblr.com) will read their pieces for the audience and tell the tales of their personal pop moments that affected them. It could be a scene from a film, a certain tune, a drawing in a graphic novel, or a quote by a favourite tv-character. Join the event as a part of the audience or, if you prefer to be the one on the stage, get in touch with Pop Momente via e-mail: popmomente@gmx.de.

THURSDAY 05.12

WHY: Druck Berlin is set to become the world’s largest ever art festival for silk screen printing. It will bring together a selection of the best printers from all over Europe and host internationally renowned artists for three weekends of live printing, exhibitions, solo shows and workshops. One main exhibition will bring all areas of the event together as a tribute to the best of silk screen print, those prolific for its use and those who are motivators of the method.

Stattbad / Gerichtstrasse 65, 13347 Berlin, S+U Wedding / ongoing until 08.12 / more info

FRIDAY 06.12

20.00 Positioning Project 2#: Ute Klein - Kaskade @ Centrum

WHY: Ute Klein's recent photographic works often relate to a particular site and to the objects found within a site. Through a repetitive process of being photographed and re-photographed, the found objects and their images are arranged in order to explore pictorial space and composition. Within this process the objects often take on a new set of associations in relation to their environment. Ute Klein will be developing a site specific work, Kaskade, reflecting the particularities of Centrum’s space.

Centrum / Reuterstrasse 7-8, Berlin 12053, U7 Rathaus Neukölln - U8 Boddinstrasse / open through 17.12 / free entry / more info

17.00 Endoambivalenz Christmas / Plastikové Vánoce @ Kwadrat

WHY: 2 cities, 2 galleries, 2 curators, 2 x 6 artists. Two exhibitions, which are almost identical, but slightly different by context and content, are taking place in Berlin and Prague. Wrapped up in ambivalent mix of feelings caused by seasonal darkness and holiday glitter, this group show might bring you closer to that specific Christmas mood.

Kwadrat / Adalbertstrasse 20, 10997 Berlin, U Kottbusser Tor / open through 11.01 / free entry / more info

19.00 WAHALA / On Representation, Authenticity, Expectations and Other Inflated Concepts @ SAVVY Contemporary

WHY: In everyday practices, in academia and in the cultural sector, artists, scholars and curators have to deal with representations or find themselves accused of inauthenticity on the basis of their background, race, gender or sexual orientation. Along these lines, the exhibition project will examine the strategies of renegotiating stereotypes of representation and authenticity. Similar to Aristotle’s ambivalent idea of catastrophe, Wahala can also stand for the way artistic vision often works and changes the “horizon of meaning” of a certain social context.

SAVVY Contemporary / Richardstrasse 20, 12043 Berlin, U Karl-Marx-Strasse / open through 07.01 / free entry / more info

21.00 Concert: Tahribad-i İsyan @ Tanas

WHY: A month after the last exhibition in Tanas, a very special farewell concert will take place in the empty space . Tahribad -i Isyan - three young rappers from Halil Altınderes Video Wonderland, a highlight of this year's Istanbul Biennial - have been invited to perform for the Berlin public. The wacky video with gangster rap aesthetics can be viewed on the day of the concert from 14h in TANAS.

Tanas / Heidestrasse 50, 10557 Berlin, S Hauptbahnhof / free entry / more info
