Tips 03.04 - 06.04

An exciting week ahead -- we look forward to the opening of the largest solo exhibition to date by  Ai Wei Wei, our editor-in-chief Despina Stokou's solo show at EIGEN + ART Lab, LEAP's first exhibition at their new space, DJ-slash-painter Markus Manowski's show at L'atelier-ksr, and many more.

THURSDAY 03.04

10.00 Ai Wei Wei – Evidence @ Martin-Gropius-Bau

WHY: The special thing about this exhibition is that it is Ai Wei Wei's largest solo exhibition to date. He will present works and installations which were either designed for Martin-Gropius-Bau, or have not yet been shown in Germany. It is a political exhibition that Ai Weiwei has made for Berlin in his studio in the rural outskirts of Beijing.

Martin-Gropius-Bau / Niederkirchnerstraße 7, 10963 Berlin, S+U Potsdamer Platz /  €11/€8 / more info

17.00 Despina Stokou – The Royal We @ EIGEN + ART Lab

WHY: Besides the fact that Despina is the leader of the Bpigs gang, we would heartily recommend to see this show also because we are fans of her colorful wordy paintings. It is only a matter of time when her name is going to be more annoyingly present than Oscar Murillo's, so grab your chance to meet her while she still cares.

EIGEN + ART Lab / Auguststrasse  11-13, 10117 Berlin, U Weinmeisterstr - U Oranienburger Tor - S Oranienburger Str / ongoing until 10.05 / free entry / more info

19.00 Episode 6: Blank Page @ insitu

WHY: The exhibition "Episode 6: " focuses on art that was developed out of moments of inactivity or boredom. When production is not premeditated, when the blank page doesn't inspire, when there are hours to kill: the outcome can be surprising, driven by factors like intuition and unpredictability.

Insitu / Kurfürstenstrasse 21-22, 10785 Berlin, U Kurfürstenstr / ongoing until 04.05 / free entry / more info

FRIDAY 04.04

19.00 Milos Tomic / Zoya Cherkassky-Nnadi / Alona Harpaz @ Circle1

WHY: Circle1 hosts a three-in-one opening this Friday, presenting three different artists: multimedia artist Milos Tomic whose Musical Diaries will be on display; Zoya Cherkassky-Nnadi, who shows her paintings in an exhibition called New African Art inspired by her visit to Nigeria; and Alona Harpaz with her exhibition of floral paintings titled „As if Royal“.

Circle1 / Mittenwalder str. 47, 10961 Berlin, U Gneisenaustr / ongoing until 10.05 / free entry / more info: Milos Tomic - Zoya Cherkassky-Nnadi - Alona Harpaz

19.00 Obsessive Sensing @ LEAP

WHY: The group exhibition Obsessive Sensing features works which  look at the programming of the world as an expression of artistic research. The participating artists aim to ‘’sense’’ with the help of complex systems, and thus to reimagine how we perceive the world. It is the first exhibition in LEAP's new space in Leipziger Strasse, which is another reason to attend.

LEAP / Leipziger Str 63, 10117 Berlin, U6 Stadtmitte – U2 Hausvogteilplatz / ongoing until 26.04 / free entry / more info

SATURDAY 05.04

18.00 About Sculpture #2 @ Galerie Rolando Anselmi

WHY: Galerie Rolando Anselmi presents the second chapter of the project About Sculpture, which evolves throughout the year, with four group exhibitions exploring contemporary sculpture. The artistic relevance of this medium will be examined through the work of 24 international artists, born between the 60s and the 80s. The artists included in the exhibitions, ranging from established to emerging, are invited to present one piece, trying to expand and go beyond conventional debates and notions of sculpture.

Galerie Rolando Anselmi / Erkelenzdamm 11 – 13, 10999 Berlin, U Kottbusser Tor / ongoing until 15.05 / free entry / more info

19.00 Markus Manowski aka Daze Maxim – Nothing Can Go Wrong @ L'Atelier-ksr

WHY: Markus Manowski is well known under his artist name Daze Maxim. He created a substantial body of work as a musician, producer and performer in the field of electronic music. His first solo show at L'Atelier-ksr will showcase a series of paintings in various formats. The artworks are characterized by complected compositions, formally aligned to varying states of mind to create a dialogue between the painter, his environment, and his medium.

L'Atelier-ksr / Grossbeerenstr 34, 10965 Berlin, U Mehringdamm / ongoing until 03.05 / free entry / more info
