WEDNESDAY 28.10

20.00 Giuseppe Ielasi + Jan Jelinek @ Spektrum

WHY: Presented in collaboration by Care Of Editions and Skyapnea Records, this ongoing concert series aims to cultivate a dialogue between the popular and the experimental, and to promote the effects of an era in which the most contemporary forms are arguably derivative (mixes, remixes, playlists and shuffle), yet uniquely capable of supporting new insights and practices along the lines of curatorial authorship, exotica, ethnographic recording, field and field-like recording, the porousness of musical communities, and the breakdown of genres and lineages.

21.00 Blackest Ever Black x PAN @ Berghain

WHY: Blackest Ever Black marks its 5th anniversary with a major two-part event at Berghain. Founded in 2010 as an outlet for the music of Raime, and to explore a new gothic impulse in electronic music, over the past five years the London-born, now Berlin-based label has evolved into something much more idiosyncratic and genre-blind. The earlier part of the night features live performance from Tropic of Cancer, with support from Diät & Death Disco DJs. The second part from midnight on features live performances from Raime and Prurient, with DJ sets from Regis and Felix K. Meanwhile, Panorama will host PAN: Bill Kouligas, Objekt, Lee Gamble, Josey Rebelle and M.E.S.H.

The evening also marks the start of the HKW’s new TECHNOSPHÄRENKLÄNGE concert series, curated together with CTM Festival and scheduled to appear at irregular intervals till 2018. Through music and sound, the series aims to explore our existence in and reactions to the technosphere, as the current composition of the world that results from the connection of human, planetary, and technological forces.

20.00 Herbert + Jenny Hval @ Volksbühne

WHY: Matthew Herbert arrives to Volksbühne with his new album "Shakes", first one released under the name Herbert since 2006. The album deals with intensely personal issues, and is said to be “electronic music for the soul”, with the attempt to seduce the listener back to the dance-floor. Jenny Hval will surprise you with her sound that slowly expanded from solo computer loops and vocal edits, to collaborations with the likes of Øystein Moen (Jaga Jazzist/Puma), Thor Harris (Swans), improv cellist Okkyung Lee and harpist Rhodri Davis.

Volksbühne / Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, 10178 Berlin, U Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz / more info

WEDNESDAY 04.11

21.00 Battles @ Berghain

WHY: Being fans of both Battles and Berghain, the thought of experiencing the combination makes our hearts beat faster. No place better to hear the brilliant NY trio and their new album "La Di Da Di" live. The album is described as "a mushrooming monolith of repetition, an organic techno thrum of nearly infinite loops that refuse to remain consistent". In other words: if you fancy hearing a band that has the ability to restore your nearly lost love for rock music, get your ticket asap.

Berghain / Am Wriezener Bahnhof, 10243 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Str. / more info

THURSDAY 05.11

20.00 Julia Holter + Lucrecia Dalt @ Berghain

WHY: "Have You in My Wilderness" is the new, fourth full length album by Los Angeles artist Julia Holter. Multi-layered and texturally rich, it features an array of electronic and acoustic instruments played by an ensemble of LA musicians. It is also Holter’s most sonically intimate album, with her vocals front and centre in the mix. Julia will present her new album in Berghain with support from the lovely producer/singer/songwriter Lucrecia Dalt.

Berghain / Am Wriezener Bahnhof, 10243 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Str. / more info

20.00 Joanna Newsom @ Admiralspalast

WHY: It will be a tough choice for the fans of both Julia Holter and Joanna Newsom, who are set to perform on the same day. Joanna will arrive to Admiralspalast to present her new (fourth) album, "Divers", hopefully early enough for us to make it to both gigs. The clasically trained harpist with a rich musical background is most celebrated for her Appalachian-meets-avant-garde take on folk music, but her range is even more inclusive in various musical collaborations. Do not miss the chance to see one of the most talented singers/songwriters/alternative pop divas of today.

Admiralspalast / Friedrichstr. 101, 10117 Berlin, S+U Friedrichstr. / more info

After the party is the afterparty with Kirin J Callinan (live) + DJ sets from Touchy Mob, Sean Nicholas Savage, Princess Century (Austra / Trust), DENA (!K7), Karl Monica & No Drama.
