Music Tips 25.11 - 08.12

Music Tips 25.11 - 08.12

The techno mecca is being invaded these days by touareg, r'n'r, hip-hop and pop tribes - among many others, that is. To prove how wonderfully diverse the scene is, and how many exciting events are happening every day, here is our heavily reduced two-week list of live shows we'll quit our evening jobs for, sooner or later.

TUESDAY 25.11

19.30 Music Pool Berlin: Consultation + Community Evening #9 w/ Brian Turner / WFMU @ ACUD

WHY: As a part of the Music Pool Berlin Community Evening #9, Brian Turner will share some experiences with running WFMU and programming radio shows in a public interview. He will also DJ a freeform selection of experimental, international, postpunk and unusual sounds, WFMU style.

ACUD MACHT NEU / Veteranenstr. 21, 10119 Berlin, U Rosenthaler Platz / more info

WEDNESDAY 26.11

20.00 Laetitia Sadier @ KULE

WHY: If you're one of those (well, one of us) who can't get enough of the good old Stereolab, then the lead singer Laetitia Sadier's lovely new album "Something Shines" should certainly be an exciting thing and a great surogate for the new band material. To our great joy, Laetitia presents her solo material in Berlin this Wednesday at KULE.

KULE / Auguststraße 10, 10117 Berlin, U Oranienburger Tor - S Oranienburger Str. / more info

THURSDAY 27.11

20.00 Mdou Moctar @ Monarch

WHY: After a sold out show at Westgermany earlier this year, here is a second chance for those who couldn't get in, or actually did and enjoyed it. In the somewhat crowded scene of Touareg guitarists, Mdou stands apart from his peers as one of the few willing to experiment and push the boundaries of the genre. Fans of the so-called desert blues and its very special distinctive sound will have to choose between this, and an equally interesting concert by TissDass on the same day at ACUD. Tinariwen will play the day before at Postbahnhof, making it sort of an unofficial Touareg blues festival.

Monarch / Skalitzer Str. 134 - 1st floor, 10999 Berlin, U Kottbusser Tor / more info

FRIDAY 28.11

20.00 Trashfest VI: The Return @ Urban Spree / ACUD

WHY: Berlin's trashiest r'n'r festival has returned, "like a naughty prodigal son to the arms of its mother who is secretly proud of her little diva's tantrum and hopes he grows up to be a slutty street tranny with a big knife and bigger dick". Friday at Urban Spree with Chuckamuck, Liquor Store, Kristy & the Kraks, Go!zilla, and Orchestra Hit ; Saturday at ACUD with Jimmy Trash & Big Daddy Mugglestone, Charlie Megira & The Bet She’an Valley Hillbillies, The Germans From Germany, and Hobocombo.

Urban Spree / Revaler Str. 99, 10245 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Str. /
ACUD MACHT NEU / Veteranenstr. 21, 10119 Berlin, U Rosenthaler Platz / more info

23.55 Shameless/Limitless: Golden Donna + N1L + SFTSTPS + Jayyce + Olle Holmberg (DJ) @ ACUD

WHY: If you haven't heard any music by the line-up above, you should soon, certainly while there's an opportunity to meet them here in Berlin. There's nothing like falling in love with a band at a first listen which happens to be a live show. It's too late for us - we already developed feelings for Golden Donna - but here's an advice: don't miss this night of fresh sounds and pure love potential.

ACUD MACHT NEU / Veteranenstr. 21, 10119 Berlin, U Rosenthaler Platz / more info

SUNDAY 30.11

16.00 Sunday Funday w/ TOPS + Feelings @ Monarch

WHY: Puschen and Shameless/Limitless team up once again to treat us with an above-average exciting Sunday afternoon. Apart from the main thing that is live shows from TOPS and Feelings, expect some delightful additions to this Sunday Funday, such as nail art, massages, zines, tasty treats, ... and more!

Monarch / Skalitzer Str. 134 - 1st floor, 10999 Berlin, U Kottbusser Tor / more info

WEDNESDAY 03.12

20.00 Kometenmelodien: Inga Copeland + Jabu + Leif Hall @ Kantine am Berghain

WHY: We are pretty curious to hear what the somewhat elusive singer and producer Inga Copeland came up with on her new solo album after the acclaimed collaboration with Dean Blunt. Curiosity adds up quickly with two other acts: Leif Hall - mutimedia artist and musician whose work evolved from audiovisual performances and experimental vocal compositions to gloomy electro pop songs, and Jabu - the hip-hop duo appreciated for their experimental and "very British" sound design.

Kantine am Berghain / Rüdersdorfer Str. 70, 10243 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Str. / more info

21.00 The Intelligence + Mommy Boys @ West Germany

WHY: The Intelligence arrive to Berlin to infect us with fun guitar sounds. They may be referred to as the backbone/egg/masterpiece of a garage rock band, that has been around for longer than one might think this new garage revival exists. Make sure to get your ticket to the limited-capacity-space of Westgermany on time - one way is to follow us on facebook and win a pair through our ticket giveaway!

West Germany / Skalitzer Str. 133, 10999 Berlin, U Kottbusser Tor / more info

THURSDAY 04.12

22.00 Grand Jeté 0.4 w/ KONRAD BLACK , The Vulva String Quartett, Dj Télépathe & Nicholas Desamory @ OHM Berlin

WHY: Grand Jeté is a series of electronic music events @ OHM club. The participating artists come from different musical backgrounds, however all of the events have one thing in common: exploration of rhythm and sound.  For its last edition, Grand Jeté presents Konrad Black (Wagon Repair), The Vulva String Quartett (I´m so blasé), and DJ Télépathe vs. Nicholas Desamory.

PS. Follow us on facebook to win a pair of tickets!

OHM Berlin / Köpenicker Strasse 70, 10179 Berlin, U Heinrich-Heine Str. / more info

FRIDAY 05.12

20.00 Kometenmelodien: Arca & Jesse Kanda + Moussa Coulibaly + Falko Teichmann (dj) @ Berghain

WHY: CTM Festival and Kometenmelodien present the German premiere of the new live audiovisual show by Arca and Jesse Kanda. Arca will be presenting his debut album "Xen" together with the video artist and director Jesse Kanda, who works with the possibilities of digital image manipulation. Kanda is also responsible for the album visuals, and has previously implemented projects with Comme des Garcons, Martin Margiela, XL Recordings, Kanye West, FKA twigs, and others.

Berghain + Panorama Bar / Am Wriezener Bahnhof, S+U Warschauer Str. / more info

21.00 Monkeytown Fest @ Tempodrom

WHY: Monkeytown Records presents the Monkeytown Fest as a celebration of their fifth anniversary. This big birthday bash features darlings of nearly every music fan: Moderat, Notwist and Mouse on Mars, plus the artist-slash-musician Siriusmo, and Dark Sky with their debut album. A good balance of concert, festival and bday party atmosphere should be a guarantee for a fun night.

Tempodrom / Möckernstraße 10, 10963 Berlin, U Möckernbrücke / more info
