Music Tips 17.02 - 01.03

Bird song is our favorite tune lately, especially in the afternoon while the sun kisses the cold pavement and makes little squinting eyes shed joyful tears. Soon we will be blasting Vivaldi's "Spring" with all windows wide open, and start complaining about the lack of twee pop in the cold-blooded Berlin. So check out our last winter tips while we still have our shit more or less together. In the last moody February days you will find anything from noise-wrapped folk ballads to pop-infused electronic experiments.

20.00 Weyes Blood + Takeshi Nishimoto @ Kantine am Berghain

WHY: Natalie Mering is the brains behind the indie-folk outfit Weyes Blood. She has previously toured as a member of noise-rock outfit Jackie-O Motherfucker and alongside Nautical Almanac, and collaborated with Ariel Pink. Mering blends the idylls of folk ballads and madrigals with the abrasiveness of noise rock.  On her second album "The Innocents", her voice is the dominant quality. Takeshi Nishimoto will perform  as a support act. While acclaimed as a guitar expert, he has also been steadily growing into the electronic music scene.

FRIDAY 20.02

20.00 Dan Deacon + SFTSTPS @ Schwuz

WHY: Dan Deacon is returning triumphantly with the new album "Gliss Riffer", which he calls "easily the most fun [he’s] ever had making a record". His interactive live shows had quite a reputation from the insane one-man-show beginnings in DIY spaces, to performances in museums and concert halls that were gradually expanded to include a horde of side musicians. With a lot of novelties in his new material, even the know-it-all fans should be blissfully surprised with his show at Schwuz.
