Music Tips 15.09 - 28.09

Music Tips 15.09 - 28.09

The list of music events is looking pretty intense, especially combined with the eventful Berlin Art Week. Try to mix concerts & parties with openings & art fairs to get the most out of this fun week.

TUESDAY 15.09

20.00 Molly Nilsson “Zenith” record release show @ Berghain

WHY: Dark Skies Association and Shameless/Limitless proudly present Molly Nilsson, live in concert in celebration of the impending release of her new LP, “Zenith”. Molly will share the Berghain stage with special guests Apostille (live), Alex Cameron (live) & PLANNINGTOROCK (DJ).

Berghain / Am Wriezener Bahnhof, 10243 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Strasse / more info

WEDNESDAY 16.09

21.00 Death and Vanilla @ ACUD MACHT NEU

WHY: Loving the dreamlike sound of vintage Moog synths and mellotrons? Couple it with subdued psychedelic pop with heavy soundtrack and dream pop influences, and you’ll get the Swedish duo Death and Vanilla. Think  Broadcast and Stereolab who defined the sound in the ’90s and 2000s.

ACUD MACHT NEU / Veteranenstr. 21, 10119 Berlin, U Rosenthaler Platz / more info

THURSDAY 17.09

21.00 Seekae @ Watergate

WHY: Seekae combine elements of hip-hop, indie pop, post-rock, ambient and IDM into a new form of electronic music. Their newly released record “The Worry” sees percussionist Alex Cameron step up to vocal duties for the first time, exploring themes of nihilism, revenge and the redemptive power of love. Recommended gig not only for this stunning young band, but also for the rare occasion to hear a show like this at Watergate.

Watergate / Falckensteinstr. 49, 10997 Berlin, U Schlesisches Tor / more info

FRIDAY 18.09

19.00 Mac DeMarco + Dinner @ Postbahnhof // 22.00 Afterparty @ Urban Spree

WHY: Mac is back to present “Another One”, a mini-LP with eight, freshly written songs, expanding the arsenal of Mac's impressive catalog. This time he is sharing the Postbahnhof stage with Dinner –  Danish singer and producer Anders Rhedin. The afterparty takes place at Urban Spree, with live shows by Walter TV (feat Joe and Pierce of Mac's band - Berlin debut!) and Andy Boay (solo project from Andy, who plays in Mac's band + TONSTARTSSBANDHT), plus DJs Joe McMurray, Molly Nilsson, Barry Burns, Jason Harvey, DJ No Drama and RoomateZ.

Postbahnhof / Straße der Pariser Kommune 8, 10243 Berlin, S Ostbahnhof / more info
Urban Spree / Revaler Str. 99, 10243 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Str. / more info

20.00 Closing Party & Benefit @ NK Project

WHY: Sadly another important venue shuts down. The last concert night takes place this Friday, with live acts by Joke Lanz, Fredrik Olofsson, Ilan Volkov, Mat Pogo, Andrea Belfi, Martin Maischein, Kathy Alberici + Federico Nitti, Pure, Jd Zazie, Krube., and Insultor.

TUESDAY 22.09

20.00 Noveller + Sferics @ Loophole

WHY: Noveller is the solo project of the prolific guitarist and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate. For her new album “Fantastic Planet”, Noveller developed her signature cinematic soundscapes further and pushed her sound in new directions. Highly recommended to give it a listen at her next live show in Berlin.

Loophole / Boddinstr. 60, 12053 Berlin, U Rathaus Neukölln / more info

WEDNESDAY 23.09

20.00 No Joy + Plattenbau @ Kantine am Berghain

WHY: No Joy arrives to Berlin for the 3rd time – this time in support of their stellar new record “More Faithful“. The newborn is described as “a juxtaposition of unrest and calm, beauty and chaos, truth and fantasy, in the throes of maxed-out amps and hair-whipping guitar goddess rock music”. Apparently their finest work to date, so it seems that their third Berlin time will be the best.

Kantine am Berghain / Am Wriezener Bahnhof, 10243 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Strasse / more info

THURSDAY 24.09

20.00 Melvins @ Berghain

WHY: “oppressively slow and heavy, only without any of the silly mystical lyrics or the indulgent guitar solos; it’s just one massive, oozing pile of dark slime.” … sounds just about right for the venue and the current weather. Although the tickets are officially sold out, there are always ways to find last-minute deals.

Berghain / Am Wriezener Bahnhof, 10243 Berlin, S+U Warschauer Strasse / more info
