WHY: Care of editions is a Berlin-based label presenting an electroacoustic concert series. On August 4th, Caterina Barbieri and Carlo Maria will perform at West Germany, followed by a DJ set by Giovanni Civitenga. The concert also celebrates the release of the final LP in Negative Money series, with Jib Kidder's New Works for Realistic Mixer, out on August 1st.

WHY: Berlin’s afternoon festival for eclectic new sounds and discoveries takes place in the garden of ://about blank from the early afternoon hours until dawn. Expect  new and exciting Berlin-based acts: festival openers The Germans from Germany, Italo disco duo Itaca, thug-rockers Bikes, Puppetmastaz producer Blake Worrell’s new Berlin Ensemble, garage rockers Chuckamuck, loop wizard Helmut, slow-mo disco from Masha Qrella and smooth rock courtesy of Walls & Birds.

14.30 By the Lake Festival w/  The Master Musicians of Jajouka & Bachir Attar, Mdou Moctar, Liss, Selvhenter, King Khan & The Shrines, Cavern of Anti-Matter, Laid Back, Cold Specks  @ Weißensee

WHY: By the Lake Festival unites a total of eight bands and concerts at two locations: Freilichtbühne Weißensee (06/08)) and Strandbad Weißensee (07/08). All artists have been selected and invited by The Lake (www.thelakeradio.com), the web radio station founded by Efterklang and friends, who will additionally set up a live radio studio during the festival to present interviews, DJ sets and other extra in-between concerts. Don't forget your bathing gear as this is going to be a proper beach party.

18.00 Project Space Festival Berlin: Cluster #1 @ Labor Neunzehn

WHY: Labor Neunzehn introduces the concert series “Cluster” in its intimate white room on the occasion of the Project Space Festival Berlin. Cluster #1 presents an electroacoustic session by Annette Krebs and Axel Dörner, and a solo program of the cellist and composer Nora Krahl. “Cluster” is a music series devoted to sound investigation with a particular focus on contemporary languages, extended techniques and possible fresh collaborations between musicians, composers and electronic music performers. A selection of films will be shown before the start of the concert.

21.00 Morgan Delt + Slow Steve @ Kantine am Berghain

WHY: Morgan Delt appeared for the first time on the lo-fi psych-horizon with a strictly limited release tape called "Psychic Death Hole", which recalls the sound of early Pink Floyd, and at the same of the roughest songs by Thee Oh Sees. This year Morgan Delt's debut LP was brought to life on Sub Pop. For his gig at Kantine am Berghain, Slow Steve will be playing support.

WHY: Playground A/V Berlin is a festival for audiovisual art, which makes its Berlin debut this year. Experience 3 days of festival craze with an endless line-up and a varied program, featuring workshops, exhibitions, concerts, parties, installations, noisemachines & circuit bending fleamarket, and TV transmissions.

FRIDAY 12.08

20.00 Lightning Bolt + Dj Scotch Egg @ Berghain

WHY: Lightning Bolt are Brian Chippendale on drums and vocals & Brian Gibson on bass guitar. The band formed 20 years ago at the Rhode Island School of Design. They are known for their guerrilla-style live performances, playing typically among the crowd rather than on the stage. Loud and aggressive, intelligent and addictive; taking cues from Japanese noise rock bands such as Boredoms and Ruins, as well as the likes of Philip Glass and Sun Ra. This time performing at Berghain with support from Dj Scotch Egg.
