GLOBAL MEETS LOCAL. ZK/U is a residency and platform for creative and urban experimentation. Through its glocal program, ZK/U explores and critiques existing knowledge and practices in urban agglomerations as a springboard to individual and community self-empowerment. With insights and expertise gained over years of collective work as an artist-run initiative in Berlin and beyond, ZK/U fosters the expansion of resilient and inclusionary networks that can rise to the challenges of city life in the 21st century. In order to grasp the often perplexing complexities engendered by worldwide interconnections, local initiatives are examined on the global scale be it in Berlin or Buenos Aires.
In the context of its art and research residency program, ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics Berlin offers a ‘living & working’ space for artists, scholars, practitioners and professionals of various fields whose practice relates to the exploration and questioning of urban reality. ZK/U welcomes residency applications with proposals framed as contemporary artistic positions that are conceptual, interventionist and contextual, and as research and activism in the fields of urbanism, geography, anthropology, architecture and the humanities.
With collaborative practices and peer-to-peer learning at its core, the residency is about exchanging with and learning from other artists and practitioners. Residents are encouraged to involve themselves with ZK/U’s programme and to propose their own formats.
